National hunt horse racing is made up of two major disciplines: steeple chasing and hurdling. While steeple chases receive great attention due to their manic pace and intense meetings, hurdling is an art in its own right. Hurdlers develop an entirely different skill set to steeple chase horses and are therefore rated and judged separately. These three jumpers are currently the top performers on the United Kingdom hurdling circuit.

The best Del Mar horse racing bet on Wednesday, August 18th, is in Race 5. Because Carla Gaines saddles the morning line chalk, the horse that should be the favorite figures to go off at overlaid odds.
Gaines is winning at a 35% clip at the meet. That’s pretty incredible considering how Del Mar’s Polytrack can favor speed one day and closers the next. I believe I…

Del Mar Racecourse was buzzing with excitement as the running of the John C. Mabee Stakes got under way. An extremely talented field of competitors entered the starting gates of this magnificent Grade II event, with their eyes on the prize of $250 000. Fortunately for everyone involved in the racing career of Wasted Tears, she had the tenacity to continue fighting for her victory amidst the high pressure of contenders chasing her down, completing the race with a nail-biting finish.

Although Sidney’s Candy, the Santa Anita Derby winner, and Golden Itiz, the Affirmed Handicap winner, face each other on the turf in Race 9 on Saturday at Del Mar, the best bet, based on the likely horse racing odds, appears to be in Race 7.
In Race 7, 3-year-old fillies take to the turf to go 1 mile in an $80,000 optional claimer. Because of the depth of the field, my top pick…

The Sword Dancer Invitational goes off as Race 10 at the Spa on Saturday. The Sword Dancer is easily the top betting graded race on Saturday and should give horseplayers more than one horse racing bet option.
But the best race to bet, the race where the best overlay can be found at the Spa on Saturday, is in Race 9.

Harbinger began to rock the horse racing industry last year with magnificent performances, showing improvement and skill with each event. His talent and ability won the hearts of fans and catapulted him to iconic status. He was also seen as the best flat thoroughbred racing athlete in the world. Unfortunately all hopes and dreams to see him participate in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in October were dashed by a fractured leg that has led to his retirement.

After a quick peek at what the sky is going to look like above Saratoga Springs, NY on Thursday, it’s obvious to me that making a horse racing bet on any of Thursday’s turf races at the Spa could turn into a disaster.
There’s a 40% chance of rain in Saratoga Springs tomorrow. That’s not good news to owners, trainers, and horseplayers who had expected to make some…

It most certainly looks like winning fillies such as Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta will have extremely difficult competition in the future, as a magnificent
performance during the running of the Whitney Handicap Invitational saw to it that Blame secured his place in the winners circle. Even though Quality Road was
chosen as the favorite for the 2010 edition of this prestigious event, Blame came through with more determination and speed than anyone expected him to. Quality Road was believed to be one of the fastest horses in the world, now it seems to be a title that should go to Blame instead.

The great thing about the 40-day Saratoga meeting is the fact they only take one day a week off, and after a dark day on Tuesday, we are back in action for the next six days.
The feature on today’s card is the $70,000 De La Rose, which drew a full and competitive field of fillies and mares who will do battle on the inner turf course going a mile.

With a $1m purse to be won, the Haskell Invitational Handicap is one of the premier horse racing events on the racing calendar. Inaugurated in 1968, the race was established to pay tribute to Amory L Haskell, late chairman and president of the Monmouth Park Racecourse. The event was changed from a handicap to an invitational handicap in 1981. It is a Grade 1 racing event for three year old race horses, and entries into this race are done by invitation only. Needless to say, some of the most successful and high profile horses are invited to participate, and the 2010 Haskell Invitational took place on Sunday, 1 August 2010.
